In 2012, the Hugh J. White Chapter hosted the Tuskegee Airmen Central Region Camp. The regional president Marv Abrams brought with him a special guest for the youth attending the event. That gentlemen was Dr. Granville Coggs, a Tuskegee Airmen pilot. 5 On Your Side shared the sad news that Dr. Coggs had died at the age of 93.
He spoke at the banquet for the youth. This young at heart gentleman showed that age is just a number. He could recite the Gettysburg address, hinting at his mental capacity. He was a senior olympian with medals, highlighting his physical capacity. And he was a pilot and a doctor. Faced with obstacles this man showed the path of excellence, determination and perseverance.
His legacy I hope lives on in the lives he touched that weekend. Rest in Peace.
