Dear Student/Family,
You are invited to apply for a Tuskegee Airmen Foundation annual scholarship. Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated (TAI) national organization awards forty scholarships annually each valued at $1,500 or more to deserving high school seniors. Scholarship awards are based on four criteria: 1) academic performance, 2) financial need, 3) two themed essays, and 4) timely submission of the completed application. The 2026 scholarship application form is enclosed for your use. Additional copies may be made of the form to share with other students and their families. Pay close attention because requirements are listed on both the first and second pages of the application. PLEASE NOTE: Completed scholarship applications must be received by the Scholarship Chair no later than Monday, January 26, 2026. (Received does not mean postmarked.)
Last year our scholarship applications decreased. We sent only six applications forward. One school commented that parents were concerned with submitting their tax form. We do need proof of income. However, we do not need parent’s SSN. Please feel free to black out adult SSN, all youth SSN except for the last four of the applicants. We also just need the front sheet to AG. I prepare taxes through AARP TaxAide and I am very conscious of the need to protect identity. Five of our six applicants received a scholarship. This year we should be able to submit 10 applicants from our area again. The Lewis Lynch Chapter at Scott AFB will choose 5 applicants to forward.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare a high-quality application package. Start now on the application, use the spelling and grammar check on the computer, and have a teacher or other helpful adult proofread it. Take time to explain any special circumstances. Reviewers understand that life happens and want to understand your situation. Please explain your personal contributions such as office or position held and highlight your involvement. Each application is reviewed twice, once by a local chapter and then on a national level. We know the world is a better place because you’re in it. We want you to tell us why. Do not assume that the reviewers know the purpose of each organization.
Once again, a memorial Lewis Lynch Aviation scholarship honoring Mr. Lewis Lynch, a Tuskegee Airmen, will be offered to a student from the St. Louis area who is pursuing studies and a career in aviation.
Good luck to all students and their families. We look forward to receiving your applications. REMEMBER: Completed scholarship applications must be mailed to the address below and received by the Scholarship Chair no later than Monday, January 26, 2026. Please place the following on the top of all applications in the area provided!
