The Lewis Lynch chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen had the pleasure of hosting the Ronald McDonald House breakfast in St. Louis, MO on January 26, 2020. Ronald McDonald House Charities is a nonprofit organization founded on October 15,1974 in Philadelphia, PA. Their mission is to provide a home-away-from-home to families of seriously ill children and support to organizations that serve the needs of children. There are over 365 Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States, and 3 of those houses are right here in St. Louis. These 3 houses alone serve nearly 2,000 families per year, house more than 80 families per day and more than 12,000 families each year.
Today with the help from our 16 volunteers, some from the Hugh J. White Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Scott AFB Dining Facility, and other active duty Air Force members, we were able to show up and prepare meals for the families. After the food was done, we were given an orientation and tour of the house, which was exceptional to say the least.
All of our hard work and effort was then brought full circle when the families started flowing in and the positive feedback that we received. After feeding the guest, we package the extra for quick meals in the days that come. And as any good kitchen staff we left the kitchen ready for the next meal. As volunteerism is an act of selflessness we would be remiss if we did not thank the awesome staff who do this on a day to day basis. We are forever grateful to the Ronald McDonald House Charities for the opportunity and thankful to the families for letting us put a smile on their faces. Article contributed by POC Glen Hodges
